On Sunday 28th July Listry U-10 team took part in the Milltown GAA club annual blitz. The team took on Austin Stacks in the first game, Ballymac in the second game and Laune Rangers in the third game. Playing great football our panel of 12 players(2 U-8) WON all their games and went on to play Austin Stacks in the semi-final. Listry continued to play some fantastic football and again had a great win over the Stacks and now qualified for the final. IMG_20130728_122430 (3)_resized

The final was against the host team Milltown , as our panel was small and with injuries picked up on route to the final it proved to be one game too much for our young stars and I know the players were disappointed to lose but they won the hearts of the coaches, parents and supporters of Listry. We proved once again that we are as good as any club in the Co. and we will continue to work hard on the skills, especially our weak side and be ready for the next challenge.

The Listry panel; Jack O’Leary-the bravest man on the team, played in goal with a very sore finger, made some fantastic saves and has a great long kick to relieve the pressure, Aaron O’Donoghue- a tough corner back with great ability to spin away from a tackle, Micheal Keane- great reader of the game, can play off his right or left and loves to block down a kick, Joe Clifford-likes to play in the forwards but proved in the blitz he can play as a defender, an accurate kicker and always enjoys the games, Aaron O’Shea-a very strong player with great hands and when he turns for goal no one will stop him, Steven O’Brien-very good defender and is growing in confidence all the time ,a great player to train and will play any position for the team, Mason Courtney-likes to play around the middle of the field, a good man to win the ball and great to handpass  it off to another player, got a few nice scores in the blitz, James O’Dowd-full forward and a great man to get a goal ,if there was a golden boot award James would have it,Conor Crowley-the most improved player this year, has fantastic pace and a great ability to defend, saved the team on several occasions, Leo Healy-new to the team this year and a great little player, full of energy and loves to get stuck in,Cathal O’Donoghue-(U-8) called up for the blitz and didn’t look out of place, a great player with lots of talent, Sean O’Brien (u-8) another player called up for the blitz a fantastic footballer with great ability to weave through the tackles.

The Listry team was coached by Denis Murphy, as I said our panel was small and Denis did a fantastic job rotating players on the pitch and always said the right thing to the team. Denis Murphy is not only the coach for the U-8s but also the main sponsor of Listry GAA club.

Gallivan Murphy Hooper Dolan Insurances are great sponsors and if you can think of Denis when you need insurance please give him a call 064- 6634632. Sponsors need the support of the club just as the club needs the support of the sponsors.

Thank you to Jeremy Wrenn, Jamie Clifford and Paul O’Donoghue for looking after the team and thank you to Milltown GAA club for inviting Listry to your wonderful blitz. Thank you to Colman O’Shea, Coaching Officer, for bringing the team Alma’s and thank you to Alan in Alma’s for his generosity. Thank you to the wonderful parents for supporting our great team.
