Keel/Listry v Kilcummin
U-14 Co.league Second round.
Keel/Listry U-14s travelled to Kilcummin on Wednesday 8th April for the second round of the Co.league. On a nice bright evening Keel/Listry started brightly with Gary Murphy kicking a good point. The boys were playing lovely football for the first five minutes but the scores weren’t coming. Kilcummin players were finding it difficult to cope with the movement and eventually had a player black carded.Gary Murphy scored a good goal and again we were looking very dangerous. Kilcummin got back into the game and with 2 points on the trot before Gary struck for another goal. Keel/Listry forwards were linking nicely and again indiscipline in the Kilcummin defence forced referee to send off a Kilcummin player. However, our forwards failed on numerous occasions to score from close range and it was Kilcummin that kicked on, scoring 1-5 to our 2 points. The half time score was Keel/Listry 2-3 Kilcummin 1-10.Our boys played great football in the first half, but, Kilcummin did the scoring.
Full back Dylan Brennan picked up an injury in the first half and we reshuffled the defence and introduced Aaron O Shea at corner forward at the start of the second half. With an extra man our boys pushed forward at every opportunity and tried hard to get scores . Unfortunately it wasn’t our night and the scores we needed just didn’t come. The more the boys tried to get into the game Kilcummin took advantage of our stretched defence and took some great scores in the second half.
The attitude of all the Keel/Listry players was great and I congratulate all the players for a disciplined and honest effort. Gearóid Ladden, Seamus Giles, Dylan Brennan, Dara O Dowd,Killian Broderick, Seán Corcoran, Liam Clifford, Killian Murphy, Micheál Buckley, Jerry Griffin, Gary Murphy, Ruairi Murphy, Diarmuid Kelleher, Ronan Buchanan, Eoin O Donnell, Aaron O Shea, James O Dowd, Dean Ladden, Cian Lenihan, Micheál Keane, Aaron O Donoghue a great bunch of players with a lot of potential.
Unfortunately the U-14 coaches didn’t cover themselves in glory-Donal Murphy, Noel Murphy, Pa Murphy and myself never got the best out of the team in the second half.
For the record the final score was Kilcummin 3-18 Keel/Listry 2-8.The game was excellently refereed by James O Sullivan from Firies.
Up Keel / Listry !
Murt Broderick.
