On Wed.1st April our U-14s played Fossa in the first round of the Co.league. On a cold windy evening in Fossa,Keel/Listry played with the wind in the first half. Our first score came from a free from centre forward Gary Murphy and he followed with a point from play.Mid fielder Killian Murphy came forward and kicked a good point. The Keel/Listry forwards were moving nicely and Gary scored a goal that was coming for a while. Fossa had a good spell mid way through the first half and scored 4 points on the trot. The Keel/Listry backs were defending well as a unit and moved the ball with purpose out of defence. Gearóid Ladden was solid in goal and his kick-outs were very good. Seamus Giles our captain,Dylan Brennan and Dara O Dowd made up a solid full back line. Killian Broderick, Seán Corcoran and Liam Clifford had to be vigilant as the Fossa half forward line were lively, but the half back line played very well and attacked at every opportunity. With our backs on top and mid-fielders Micheál Buckley and Killian Murphy working hard our forwards had plenty of ball to work with. Keel/Listry right half forward Diarmuid Kelleher kicked a good point, centre forward Gary Murphy continued to cause problems for Fossa and kicked his third point of the game. Left half forward Ruairi Murphy cut through the Fossa defence on numerous occasions and was unlucky not to score. Just before half time Killian Broderick found full forward Ronan Buchanan with a long kick pass and Ronan finished it to the net.Corner forwards Dean Ladden and Eoin O Donnell always tried hard and were also unlucky not to score in the first half. Keel/Listry should have scored more in the first half ,they hit the upright, crossbar and the Fossa goal keeper was outstanding. Fossa finished the half with a point to leave the half time score Keel/Listry 2-5 Fossa 0-5.

Keel/Listry started the second half with a goal from Eoin O Donnell. This was quickly followed with a goal from Killian Murphy. Ronan Buchanan scored a good point and Cathal Griffin who was introduced in the second half at corner forward got a super point. However,Fossa with the wind at their backs showed great team spirit to get back into the game. Fossa then kicked a goal and 2 points. Ruairi and Gary were making great runs and were rewarded with a point for Gary and another goal from Ronan .The last 10 minutes were controlled by Fossa and they scored 3 goals and 2 points to make it an exciting finish. Gearóid was brave in goals, our backs had some great block downs and Fossa like us in the first half hit the crossbar and upright. Keel/Listry introduced Aaron O Shea, Cian Lenihan and James O Dowd and the boys helped to lift the siege and Gary finished with a point to leave the final score Keel/Listry 5-9  Fossa 4-9.
The game was played in a sporting manner and was excellently refereed by Seán O’Sullivan.
Well done everyone and thank you to all the parents for supporting the boys.
Murt Broderick.
