On Tuesday 15th July 2014 Listry U-12 football team participated in the Munster blitz in the Fitzgerald stadium. This wasn’t a competition as such,it was just an opportunity to play clubs from different Counties and experience the wonderful feeling of playing in the ‘park’.
It was a beautiful sunny day in the stadium and Listry U-12s were buzzing with excitement and eager to play games. The team were introduced to Kerry senior captain Fionn Fitzgerald and after a team photo with Fionn ,they prepared for the first game.
First game was against St.Senans and after a great battle between two good teams Listry won on a scoreline of 4-2 to 3-3.Next up was Mayfield(Cork) and Listry were now representing Kerry and played accordingly, strong in defence, mobile at midfield and clinical in attack. The final score was Listry 2-6 Mayfield 0-3.The third game was against Castlemahon (Limerick).Listry continued as in the previous games by playing some great football. Every player making the right decision-playing long when they had space or fist passing when under pressure ensured another victory for Listry ,with a final score Listry 1-5 Castlemahon 0-2.
Listry had won their 3 games and did so playing very intelligent football. Listry were asked to play a fourth game and even though they were tired, they agreed. Our final game was against Dripsey and again our U-12s were a joy to watch, always looking for a team mate, linking well and chased every loose ball. The final score was Dripsey 3-4 Listry 1-6. After the games the team were given a tour of the stadium.
