This week our U-14 boys played Laune Rangers A and B in the mid-Kerry Championship. First up was Laune Rangers B on Wednesday evening 16th September 2015.The game was played in Cloon pitch in Killorglin. With the A team not having a game on the night Laune Rangers were able to field a strong B team. Our boys started well with points from Seán Corcoran,Gary Murphy,Killian Broderick and Killian Murphy. We were unlucky not to score a couple of goals at this stage as the ball struck the crossbar and the upright.Laune Rangers replied with a goal and were coming more into the game.We replied with a point from Gary,a goal from Ruairi Murphy and a point from Killian Murphy. Laune Rangers got a few points and grew in confidence. Listry/Keel worked hard and were rewarded with a goal from Aaron O Shea and a point from our best player in the first half Eoin O Donnell. The half time score was Listry/Keel 2-7 Laune Rangers 1-8.
The second half was a real battle with plenty vocal support from both sidelines. Listry/Keel took some good scores with a goal and a point from Gary,a point from Ruairi and a well taken goal from James O Dowd. However,Laune Rangers continued to move the ball with purpose and scored three points and a goal.Killian Murphy kicked 2 frees,Liam Clifford kicked the best point of the evening and Killian Murphy followed with another point.Laune Rangers wouldn’t lie down and we had some great defending from Seamus Giles,Cian Lenihan,Diarmuid Kelleher and Dylan Brennan in goal in the final minutes. Laune Rangers scored another goal and three points which left the final score at Listry/Keel 4-13 Laune Rangers 3-14,a 2 point win for our boys.

On Friday evening we played Laune Rangers A. This was going to be a tough test.Laune Rangers are a Div.1 side and Listry/Keel are Div.6 in the Co.league. Our boys went about the task with their usual positive attitude. We were containing them for the first twenty minutes but we couldn’t get the scores. Eventually the physical strength of Laune Rangers wore us down and they dominated the final 10 minutes of the first half. The score at half time was Listry/Keel 1-10 Laune Rangers 0-2. The second half was all one way traffic with Rangers winning easily in the end.
It’s been a long year for our U-14s. It’s hard to keep going at this stage of the year with dark evenings, homework, school football,  other sports , etc. and not to mention listening to cranky coaches(yeah me).I can only praise the boys for the enjoyment they’ve given all year and thank all the panel for their great behaviour on and off the field.
A big thank you as well to all the parents for supporting the boys all year. However boys we must see the year out and play to the best of our ability,so keep the focus and we can finish the year in style.  Our next game is away to Beaufort next Friday evening. Murt Broderick.
Up Listry/Keel!
