Listry/Keel U -16s
The following is the end of year report for 2016.
The team was coached by Donal and Noel Murphy from Keel and Tom O’Sullivan and Murt Broderick from Listry. We had 19 players on the panel,10 from Keel and 9 from Listry.
Training commenced on the 12th February 2016 and the boys showed a great attitude from the start. After challenge games v Dr.Crokes,St.Pats and Ardfert we were ready for the East Kerry league on the 28th March . Victories over Crokes B and Currow,a loss to Kenmare and a draw with Kilcummin all meant we would have to play Kilcummin in the semi-final . After a great battle in Listry we had a good victory over Kilcummin and made a bit of history by becoming the first ever Listry/Keel U-16 team to qualify for an East Kerry final . Unfortunately we lost the final on Friday 20th May to a much better Kenmare team.
We resumed training and after a challenge game v Spa we looked forward to the Co.league . The Co.league started on the 13thJuly.We had victories over Knock/Brosna/Duagh ,Templenoe/Sneem/Derrynane ,Kilcummin and a draw v Waterville/Dromid . We lost to St.Pats and this meant we had to travel to Blennerville for a semi final with St.Pats. On the 17th August ,after a great battle with St.Pats, unfortunately, we lost by a goal.
We regrouped again and continued to train. The Mid-Kerry championship didn’t commence until 31st of October . Unfortunately we were gone flat and even though we performed very poorly in games the boys never lost their appetite for training. On our final session on a bitterly cold evening on November 30th ,we had 17 boys in attendance . On the 4th December and with nothing to play for ,the boys finished the year with a battling performance against Milltown/Castlemaine in the final game of a long season.
