resized_20150422_192405-1On Wednesday the 22nd April 2015 Listry/Keel U-14s played Knock/Brosna in the Co.league. This game was played in glorious sunshine in Allman park Listry. Before the throw in both teams lined up in the middle of the field and a minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to former Listry footballer Michael Mangan R.I.P.
The game was played at a lively pace from the throw in and thankfully Keel/Listry started very well. Our full forward Gary Murphy was showing for everything and his quick turn and burst of pace was causing problems for the Knock/Brosna defence. Gary scored the first point, centre forward Killian Murphy burst through for a good goal and Gary followed with another goal and a point. The full forward line of Cian Lenihan Gary Murphy and Ruairi Murphy were linking up well and always trying to find a way through the Knock/Brosna defence. Keel/Listry half forward line,Ronan Buchanan, Killian Murphy and Eoin O Donnell were covering a lot of ground and always made it difficult for the Knock/Brosna half backs to clear their lines.Knock/Brosna were always a threat going forward and they kicked some wonderful points in the first half. Keel/Listry midfielders Micheál Buckley and Liam Clifford were fantastic in the first half. The  boys had to track back to help the defence, linked up very well and turned defence into attack at every opportunity. All the forwards were creating space and Ronan,Killian and Gary kicked a point each and Liam finished the half with a great goal. Our goalkeeper Gearóid Ladden is getting better with every game and always tries to find a Keel/Listry player with every kick out. Cathal Griffin was playing corner back for the first time and played his heart out. Seamus Giles was at full back and as always Seamus gave everything and defended bravely. Dara O Dowd completed a good full back line that had to be focused as Knock/Brosna had a good full forward line. Dara linked up well on numerous occasions with Dylan Brennan at left half back. Dylan is a scopey player and looked comfortable on the wing.Centre back Seàn Corcoran has a great pair of hands, fielding majestically on several occasions and has a great stride going forward. Right half back Diarmuid Kelleher had to mark a tricky forward but Diarmuid stuck to the task and was rewarded with a fine game. Micheál Keane was introduced at corner back in the first half and no better man than Micheál to read the game. Micheál didn’t put a foot wrong in what was his first game for the U-14s. After an action packed first half the score at half time was Keel/Listry 4-5 Knock/Brosna 2-9.
Dean Ladden was introduced in the second half at corner forward. Ruairi Murphy stormed into the game in the second half, fielding the ball from the Knock/Brosna kick outs and jinking through the tackles to set up some great scores. Dean Ladden was at the end of a lot of great moves, was unlucky with a couple of shots and credit must go to the Knock/Brosna keeper for some great saves. Ronan, Eoin and Gary were always creating space and our forwards were playing very well. Keel/Listry backs were closing down the Knock/Brosna attack and when Gearóid Ladden pulled off a fantastic save it lifted the whole team.
Our defenders Micheál, Seamus, Dara, Diarmuid, Seán and Dylan played great as a unit in the second half. Micheál Buckley and Liam Clifford kept clocking up the miles in mid field and our support play was very good all over the pitch. Liam’s hard work was rewarded with a point and Gary scored a super goal from a tight angle. James O Dowd and Aaron O Shea were introduced mid way through the second half and fitted in nicely to the full forward line.Ronan Buchanan kicked a great point after great team play.Killian Murphy even though he took a knock on the knee played a super game and was always available to offer support to a team mate. James O Dowd was on the end of a good move and finished to the net with style.Aaron O Shea worked hard and was unlucky not to score. Our captain Gary was the man of the match and our final score was a free from Killian Murphy.
Knock/Brosna played their hearts out in the second half, scored four great points and were unlucky not to score a couple of goals. Well done to Keel/Listry on a good team performance. The final score was Keel/Listry 7-10 Knock/Brosna 2-13. The game was excellently refereed by Daniel Clifford from Laune Rangers. Thank you to Listry juvenile secretary Fergus Clifford for umpire duty and scoreboard and thank you to Listry juvenile Chairman Denis Murphy for pitch preparation. Thank you to all parents for supporting the boys and thank you boys for your good behaviour as always. Next game at home in Keel next Wednesday v Moyvane/Tarbert. Up Keel/Listry !
