Listry had a very important victory over St Mary’s on Sunday last when they beat the home side by a single point 2-9 to 1-11. This result returns Listry to 2nd place in div 3 with just one round left.
A great save by Colm Counihan after only seconds on the clock denied Bryan Sheehan the chance to register the first score of the game which eventually came in the form of a point from a Sean Cournane free a minute later. Conor Quirke made it two minutes later for the home side. Listry soon equalised with a free from Sean Lehane and a point from play from Paul Kennedy within thirty second of each other at the five minute mark. The next score came for the home side on nine minutes when a free went out for a forty five which Bryan Sheehan easily converted. A second point from play by Sean Lehane minutes later put Listry on level terms again. A second forty five converted by Bryan Sheehan put the home side out on front again but a minute later Sean Lehane finished a great move by Danny Wrenn to the net to give Listry the lead. The home side managed to equalise with two points from play inside a minute with scores from Sean Cournane and Aidan Walsh. Listry made all the scoring in the remaining ten minutes adding two more points on twenty three and twenty five and a goal from Billy O Brien in the last minute of the half leaving the half time score Listry 2:04 Saint Mary’s 0:06 The first scores of the second half came from Listry when Sean Lehane converted 2 frees to push them further ahead. The home side scored another point but it was Listry that went on to distance themselves further with three unanswered points. St Mary’s stepped up a gear and managed three unanswered points before a great goal by Aidan Walsh on twenty eight minutes put only a single point between the sides. In a hectic last few minutes Listry held out and in fact had a chance to increase their lead but Jimmy O Leary’s effort dropped short and the referee blew full time.
