On Friday 3rd May 2013, Kerry senior footballer Johnny Buckley visited
Listry GAA grounds. Johnny is named after his grandfather who came from
Listry. Johnny’s grandfather R.I.P. and granduncles Mickey R.I.P. and
Tom R.I.P.all played for Listry and Mickey was Chairman when the
present field was purchased.

It was nice to hear Johnny speak about his
links to the club and the Buckley name has been associated with Listry
from the foundation of the club in 1932 to today with Micheal Buckley a
member of the U-12 team.
Johnny Buckley is a great footballer and on Friday he passed on
some tips to our U-6/8/10/ 12 boys and girls. He spent some time with
all the groups and I hope the kids enjoyed the session and practice the
skills of the game at home.Johnny has all the skills, defending,
attacking, high fielding   and kicking and always plays the game fairly.

It was great to have a Kerry player at the pitch and it was
great to welcome Johnny back to Listry.Thank you to all the great kids
in Listry for your good behaviour as always and I know some of you will
go on and play for Kerry some day.

Thank you to Derry Ahearn for setting
up the pitches and thank you to all the officers and parents for making
it a great evening for the kids.Thank you to all the great parents for
bringing home baking, serving tea/coffee and best of all cleaning up
after the party.Thank you to all the great coaches for your time,
coaching ability and kindness to the kids. Remember-it’s all about the kids!

Thanks again to Johnny,a true gentleman and please God we will
all be heading to ‘Croker’ on ‘Buckley’s Bus’ to support the Kerry team
later in the year. Up the Kingdom and Up Listry.
